He's worked on the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Harry Potter and Star Wars - and now singers in Norwich are being given the chance to practice with a world-renowned choral master.
As part of this year's Norfolk and Norwich Festival, Terry Edwards, who has worked on a host of top musicals and films will practice with city singers.
About 100 chorus singers are being recruited to take part in the “There Was a Child” event which will be a world premiere of a new commission by celebrated composer Jonathan Dove.
The piece is a celebration of the wonder of life and will be performed by one of the world's finest orchestras, two exceptional soloists, the Hewett School Choir from Norwich and the Festival Chorus.
All rehearsals to the event, which will take place on May 2, are being led by Mr Edwards, who has earned a reputation as one of Europe's most experienced choral conductors and chorus masters. A former Chorus Director at the Royal Opera House, he has made more than 200 records with his own company, London Voices which has featured on the soundtracks of several major films including all the Harry Potter and Star Wars releases.
Matt Burman, executive producer for the Norfolk and Norwich Festival, said: “This is a great opportunity for singers throughout the city.
“So far we have recruited about 70 singers and we are just in the final stages now as we want 100 altogether. All the singers will rehearse with Mr Edwards but he will not actually be attending the event.
“We have recruited people from across the city, from the Philharmonic Orchestra and from the UEA Choir and all will get the chance to work with a world famous choral master.”
There Was a Child is co-commissioned by the Norfolk and Norwich Festival and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
The festival's artistic director Jonathan Holloway said: “Joining the Chorus is a rare opportunity for the region's singers to be part of a world class performance in the heart of this beautiful city.
“The Chorus celebrates what is best about this area of the world - our energy, ambition, diversity and talent. This will be an uplifting and exuberant experience for all.”
The Norfolk and Norwich Festival is the international arts festival for the East of England running from May 1 to 16 2009. This year's programme will be unveiled on February 25 and is set to include some of the world's finest musicians and performers from the worlds of classical and contemporary music, dance, theatre and large scale outdoor events.
